It's a girl: Princess Eugenie (36) and Jack Brooksbank (40) have become parents for the third time. Their daughter was born Monday evening, August 3, at 7:20 p.m. CET at a hospital in Lisbon and weighed just under three kilograms at birth. The news was announced Tuesday on the couple's social media accounts and those of Buckingham Palace. The baby's name is still unknown.
The sons were born in London
The princess had her two sons back home. August Philip Hawke (5) and Ernest George Ronnie (3) were born at the Portland Hospital in London. Their little sister is therefore the couple's first child not born in Great Britain.
The reason goes back four years. Since 2022, the family has been commuting between their new home Portugal and Great Britain, triggered by a job change for Jack Brooksbank. The 40-year-old was previously a brand ambassador for the tequila brand Casamigos, which was founded by George Clooney (65) and Rande Gerber (64). He now works for real estate developer Mike Meldman, a business partner of Clooney's. Eugenie continues to work as a director for the London art gallery Hauser & Wirth. "It's a very exciting time for both of them", an insider told the "Telegraph" at the time about the fresh start.
"Nobody cares"
How liberating she finds life south of home, the princess described in 2023 on the "Table Manners" podcast. "That's exactly why Portugal is a dream: I can go to the supermarket in sportswear with my hair up and it doesn't bother me. I don't care. Nobody cares", she said.
Other royals also appreciate the country. Prince Harry (41) and Duchess Meghan (45) spent time in Portugal with their children last month, according to a "People" report, where they reportedly have a vacation home. "They love Portugal because Archie and Lilibet can just be kids there", a source told the magazine. "It's always very relaxed, with beach days, playing, and time as a family."
Number 15 in the line of succession
With her birth, the girl enters the British line of succession. Eugenie currently stands at number twelve, her three children follow directly behind, so the daughter occupies position 15. Prince Edward (62), the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), slips to position 16 with the new arrival.
A birth beyond British borders is no longer an isolated case in the line of succession. Princess Lilibet (5), the daughter of Harry and Meghan, was born in California after her parents stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. Lilibet now stands at number seven, behind her father and her brother Prince Archie (7).
Joy during a difficult phase
The happy news reaches the family during turbulent months. In October 2025, King Charles stripped Eugenie's parents, former Prince Andrew (66) and Sarah Ferguson (66), of their royal titles after their connections to the deceased offender Jeffrey Epstein (1953-2019) came back into focus.
In February, Andrew was arrested, according to a "People" report, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. This concerns the allegation that he passed confidential information to Epstein during his time as British trade envoy. After several hours of questioning, he was released. After the arrest, a source told the magazine that Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice (37) were trying to distance themselves from the affair.
