Soon, "Die Flodders" will be unleashed on the population once again. 40 years after they first conquered German cinemas, the vulgar chaos family from the Netherlands is returning in series format.
As RTL announced on Tuesday, the new "Flodder" series will premiere on September 3rd starting at 8:15 PM on the channel's main program. What's more: all six episodes of the season will be broadcast in one go. The full "Flodder" flood, so to speak.
Those who don't want to watch the episodes on linear television can also stream them starting September 3rd via RTL+ or Wow. Three days later, the broadcast will follow on Sky.
New mayhem and a familiar star
At the center of the series is a character from the original franchise: Kees Flodder has fought her way to the top of the dysfunctional family hierarchy. As in the three feature films and the "Flodder" television series from the 90s, Tatjana Šimić (63) once again slips into the role.
What the new series is about
An unexpected inheritance lands Kees Junior (Ghislaine van IJperen) and her quirky clan in a villa in Eykendaal - a model community where strict rules apply, order reigns supreme, and a perfectly manicured front lawn is considered a matter of honor. For Kees Junior, this fulfills a long-cherished childhood dream: a real home for the family.
With the Flodders, however, chaos also moves in. Her mother (Šimić), the very young mother Priscilla, handyman Paulchen, surrogate father Donnie and Grandma Flodder thoroughly disrupt the peaceful neighborhood. While the family finally feels they've arrived, the residents work by any means necessary to drive out the unwelcome newcomers. A turbulent power struggle begins between stuffy suburban idyll and anarchic family madness.
Four decades of mayhem
The first film "Flodder - Eine Familie zum Knutschen" was released in 1986 and became a cult comedy in Germany as well. It was followed in 1992 and 1995 by the two cinema sequels "Flodder - Eine Familie zum Knutschen in Manhattan" and "Flodder Forever".
The new original series from RTL+ is a co-production with Videoland. Wijo Koek, who worked as a screenwriter on the first "Flodder" series, returned as head writer for the new episodes.
