After Spider-Man: Brand New Day set multiple records at its theatrical release, the new superhero blockbuster starring Tom Holland (30) and Zendaya (29) has achieved yet another feat. Within just a few days, the film has earned more than one billion US dollars at box offices worldwide.
Only one other film in cinema history has managed to break through this milestone faster. According to industry magazine Variety, among others, Brand New Day took six days to reach it, while Avengers: Endgame managed to take in around 1.2 billion dollars internationally during its opening weekend in 2019.
The box office thus remains firmly in the hands of Marvel heroes. Third and fourth place for the most successful international opening weekends go to Avengers: Infinity War from 2018 and Spider-Man: No Way Home from 2021.
Best Previews, Best Weekend
Holland's fourth solo adventure as Spider-Man has set several records and is showing particular strength in the domestic market. According to recently revised figures, the film earned 360 million US dollars in North America over the weekend. The previous record holder, once again Avengers: Endgame, managed to record around 357 million dollars during its first weekend about seven years ago.
The so-called previews before the wide release also generated record-breaking results at the box office. On Wednesday and Thursday, Spider-Man recorded 72 million US dollars, while Endgame previously held the record with 60 million. However, these figures are not adjusted for inflation. For the Avengers film, only the preview Thursday was included in the calculation.
These two films are also the only productions to date that have managed to earn more than 300 million dollars in a single weekend in North America.
