Richard Madden (40) is leading the cast of a new action series. According to US industry magazine "Variety", the Scottish actor will play the lead role in the thriller with the working title "Trauma". In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the series will stream on Prime Video, while Paramount+ will handle the release in all other countries.
The series is set in a London hospital. In the middle of an ongoing operation, attackers take the British Prime Minister hostage. This sets ER doctor Jim Marchant, played by Madden, into action: He served as a medic with the Royal Marines and wants to bring everyone in the clinic to safety one by one. In the end, in addition to strategy and nerves of steel, what counts most in this "impossible night" is the pure will to survive.
Filming for "Trauma" is scheduled to begin in October of this year. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.
"Flawed But Good-Hearted Hero"
The series was created and written by Geoff Bussetil, who previously worked on "Slow Horses", among other projects. Daniel Syrkin ("Tehran", "MobLand") will direct and also serve as executive producer. Madden himself is also on board in this capacity.
Co-producer Ben Cavey describes "Trauma" as a blend of the pace of an emergency room and a siege thriller. Madden is perfectly suited for the role of the "flawed but good-hearted hero".
Richard Madden is very familiar with this type of material. In the six-part hit drama "Bodyguard", he played a protection officer guarding a British politician. He won a Golden Globe for this role in the Netflix production, and the series itself was nominated for an Emmy as best drama series. He originally had his breakthrough with "Game of Thrones", in which he portrayed Robb Stark for three seasons. Most recently, he appeared in the Amazon series "Citadel", and he can also be seen in the upcoming Netflix series "Trinity".
