Rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly (30) has been acquitted of the charge of assaulting a young woman. A jury in Western Australia found the 30-year-old not guilty on Friday of several counts of non-consensual assault. In contrast to two additional charges of bodily harm: there, he was found guilty by the jury, as reported by the BBC among others.
In three other allegations of assault, the jury was unable to reach a definitive verdict. Additionally, Yung Filly, whose legal name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was acquitted on another count of bodily harm causing injury as well as choking.
The musician was accused of assaulting a then 20-year-old woman in his hotel room after a performance at a nightclub in the coastal town of Hillarys near Perth. The incident allegedly occurred in September 2024.
Prosecution considers next steps
Filly remains free on bail until August 21. On that day, the court is expected to set a date for sentencing. In the three cases where the jury failed to reach a verdict, the prosecution will also decide whether to continue pursuing the assault allegations or drop them.
The 30-year-old has been subject to bail conditions since being charged. In September, he was granted permission for a four-month return trip to the United Kingdom before returning to Western Australia prior to the trial.
Well-known YouTuber
The rapper became known primarily through his collaboration with the YouTube collective "Beta Squad" and also filmed videos with the popular group "Sidemen". Additionally, he appeared on the celebrity edition of "Bake Off" on Channel 4 and hosted formats like "Hot Property" on BBC Three.
He is also a well-known musician. His released songs include "Hold" and "Tempted", among others. Filly has a large reach on social media: he has 1.8 million subscribers on YouTube, three million followers on TikTok, and 2.4 million on Instagram.
