Udo Lindenberg (80) has lost his oldest friend. Clemens Buss, whom the musician affectionately called "Clemi", died on July 25 at the age of 79, according to consistent media reports. On Instagram, the panic rocker said goodbye with a black-and-white portrait showing the two men arm in arm next to each other.
"Clemi and Udo, the boys from Gartenstrasse - my oldest friend from youth, since childhood days", Lindenberg wrote alongside the photo. The two were "the inseparables". Then he addressed his friend directly: "We'll see each other again. In heaven there's also a Gartenstrasse."
Numerous childhood memories
The Gartenstrasse that Lindenberg writes about is located in Gronau, Westphalia. The future musician grew up in house number 3, while Buss lived not far away. Together with him, the singer also discovered his passion for playing drums there.
The boys from the neighborhood crafted their first drumsticks from twigs and kale stalks and made music using barrels and drums in front of a supermarket, as he told the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" in 2008. In 1985, Lindenberg also started his tour "Sündenknall" in the hall of the textile office Buss.
Buss was also present when Lindenberg was named an honorary citizen of Gronau in 2016 and spoke about their deep friendship, which had never broken off over all those years. "The first bottle of beer, we stole that", he recalled a youthful indiscretion at the time.
Health problems for Lindenberg
The farewell comes at a time when Udo Lindenberg himself is struggling with health problems. The musician will not perform at the Panikpreis on August 1 at Hirsau Monastery in Calw. The reason is severe gastritis that has been dragging on for weeks and for which he continues to be under treatment.
Already in May, Lindenberg had to be treated for this in a Hamburg hospital and shortly thereafter canceled several appointments.
