Just a few hours before his wedding to Taylor Swift (36), Travis Kelce (36) released a podcast episode with a very special guest: The NFL star and his brother Jason (38) welcomed Prince William (44) on their show "New Heights" on Friday.
The British heir to the throne appeared surprisingly relaxed and humorous - and used his appearance to take a little jab at American football terminology. "I have to correct you - it's called football, not soccer!", William joked right at the beginning of the episode, drawing laughter from the two NFL brothers.
Prince William wants to attend the World Cup final
The Prince of Wales was a guest on the episode not only as a royal, but primarily in his role as president of the English Football Association (FA) - a position he has held for around 20 years. With regard to the ongoing World Cup, William appeared optimistic and hopeful that England would have a strong tournament. Should England reach the final, he would want to attend: "Absolutely. Maybe I'll see you both there."
The USA as host country of the World Cup also came up. When Travis and Jason Kelce asked how he liked what he had seen so far, William replied: "It's been brilliant so far." At the same time, he noted that the logistical burden on teams from traveling between the USA, Mexico, and Canada was a real challenge.
When asked about the biggest culture shock for English fans in the USA, William didn't have to think long: "Probably the beer", he said laughing. Additionally, the enormous stadiums in the USA were likely to impress many visitors from England.
Personal topics also briefly came up. William explained that his passion for Aston Villa didn't come from the royal household: "Absolutely not. My father hates football." Instead, a friend had first taken him to a game - the beginning of his fan love for the club.
Memories of their meeting with Taylor Swift
The fact that William and Travis Kelce get along well is no surprise. Back in June 2024, the two met backstage at Taylor Swift's concert at London's Wembley Stadium. Prince George (12) and Princess Charlotte (11) were also there and posed together with the football star and the singer for a souvenir photo.
In the conversation, the Kelce brothers remembered this encounter as "great" and admitted to having been quite nervous at first. For Jason Kelce, father of four daughters, Princess Charlotte was apparently a real highlight. "Four daughters - I don't know how you do it", William joked in response.
One of the most entertaining moments came from a question by Jason Kelce: What was more legendary - Travis Kelce's touchdown at Wembley Stadium or his appearance as a background dancer at a Taylor Swift concert? William chose the latter without hesitation and said with a smile: "I think you should do that again."
