Ornella Muti (71), who was born in Rome, has been one of Italy's major film stars for decades. The actress, who has Russian roots, has repeatedly emphasized her closeness to Russia in recent years. As has now become known, Muti wants to apply for Russian citizenship together with her daughter Naike Rivelli (51).
Rivelli explained this, among other things, according to a report by the Italian daily newspaper "Corriere della Sera", which refers to a conversation between Muti's daughter and the state-run Russian news agency RIA Novosti. She said they have Russian roots and cannot deny their heritage. Many Italians also love Russia, the 51-year-old claimed.

Muti has already spoken years ago about wanting to become a Russian citizen. Back in 2018, she emphasized in a conversation with the also state-run Russian news agency TASS that she would like to become a citizen of the country. She has an apartment in Moscow and a residence permit, "but no Russian passport", Muti said at the time. She would "like to adopt Russian citizenship. Why not?"
On that occasion, Muti already referred to her Russian roots, which according to her might partly explain why her family is so artistically inclined. Her grandmother was a pianist.
That Muti wants to apply for Russian citizenship was already rumored in 2016. According to TASS, she bought the aforementioned apartment in that very year.
