Right on schedule for the US national holiday, Beyoncé (44) gave her fans an unexpected gift: On Saturday (July 4th), the superstar released the song "Morning Dew (Donk)" - her first new music in two years.
The track is more than just a spontaneous weekend surprise, as indicated in a press release from Parkwood Entertainment. It simultaneously kicks off a 60-day countdown to Beyoncé's next birthday on September 4th and accompanies the reissue of her album "B'Day," which originally came out in 2006. "Morning Dew (Donk)" is included on the 20th Anniversary Edition of the record.
A song with a prominent lineup of writers
The song was written by Beyoncé together with Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon. Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams were responsible for the production. There's also a lyric video that draws on old film footage. It was directed by Cliff Watts, a longtime companion of the singer. Watts had also photographed the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover that was created shortly before Beyoncé's 25th birthday.
Waiting for the third chapter
For Beyoncé fans, the release is above all a sign of life between two major chapters. Her most recent studio album "Cowboy Carter" was released on March 29, 2024. It forms the second part of a planned trilogy that began in 2022 with "Renaissance." However, fans will have to remain patient for the third and final part of this series. A source had already put an end to speculation about an imminent release in May, according to Just Jared.
