With the prequel series "Elle", one of the most iconic film characters of the 2000s returns. Although Lexi Minetree (25) takes on the role of young Elle Woods this time, Reese Witherspoon (50) was significantly involved in the creation of the series as executive producer. Co-showrunner Caroline Dries describes Witherspoon in an interview with "People" magazine as "incredibly influential" for the series.

According to reports, the Oscar winner was not involved in every detail of the plot development. Nevertheless, she read the first season draft, asked questions, and repeatedly provided suggestions. Witherspoon "repeatedly contributed these valuable tips from her own experience", which the creative team gratefully accepted.

Open to New Ideas Despite Input

Witherspoon's own memories of high school in the 1990s were also important to her. That's exactly when "Elle" takes place. According to co-showrunner Laura Kittrell, Witherspoon made sure that typical experiences and the lifestyle of that era were authentically captured. Despite her creative input, she "maintained a really respectful distance" and gave the team a lot of freedom, Dries explains.

According to executive producer Jason Moore, Witherspoon also brought in experiences from her own children. He was "impressed" by how much and how willingly she shared everything. He also emphasizes her openness: "In all our meetings, she wanted to hear new ideas."

Witherspoon Wanted Open Casting

Finding the new Elle Woods was also a passion project for Witherspoon. According to producer Lauren Neustadter, she advocated for an open casting call so that all young actresses would have a chance. After "thousands and thousands of audition videos", the choice fell on Lexi Minetree.

She portrays young Elle Woods as a high school student in the 1990s. The plot takes place several years before she finds her place at Harvard Law School in "Natürlich blond". The series launched on July 1 on the streaming service Prime Video.
