After 13 years, the Grown Ups film series is entering its third round: Filming for Grown Ups 3 began in early August in the US state of New Jersey. Netflix announced the start of production with an initial photo of the cast, as trade publication Variety reports.
Returning from the previous films are Adam Sandler (59), Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, and Salma Hayek Pinault in their roles. Schneider was last seen in the first installment in 2010, but was absent from Grown Ups 2.
Also back on board are Steve Buscemi, Jackie Sandler, Shaquille O'Neal, Colin Quinn, Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri, Ellen Cleghorne, and Nick Swardson. The now-grown film children are also returning: Jake Goldberg, Alexys Nycole Sanchez, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Ada-Nicole Sanger, Morgan Gingerich, Kaleo Elam, Nadji Jeter, David Mattle, and Kamil McFadden. New additions to the ensemble are Julie Bowen, Deon Cole, and Bailee Madison.
What the Third Film Is About
This time, the focus is on the parents. "Now that their kids are grown, the gang is finally free for the ultimate adventure," according to Netflix's official synopsis. The streaming service has not yet confirmed any further plot details.
Adam Sandler is writing the screenplay together with his longtime writing partner Tim Herlihy. Kyle Newacheck, who already directed Happy Gilmore 2, is directing. Netflix is producing the film in collaboration with Sony Pictures, which was responsible for the first two installments. A release date has not yet been set.
Long-Standing Partnership with Netflix
The Sandler family has been featured on Netflix multiple times in recent months. Happy Gilmore 2, starring Adam and his daughters Sunny (17) and Sadie Sandler (20), was released in July 2025 and posted the most successful US opening weekend that a Netflix film had recorded up to that point. The college comedy Roommates, starring Sadie, launched on April 17. Additionally, Sunny takes the lead role in the coming-of-age dramedy Don't Say Good Luck, which debuts on the streaming service on August 14. Sunny and Sadie are from Adam Sandler's marriage to actress Jackie Sandler (51), which began in 2003.
The collaboration between Adam Sandler and Netflix dates back to 2014. It began with a four-film deal that produced the comedies The Ridiculous 6 (2015), The Do-Over (2016), Sandy Wexler (2017), and The Week Of (2018). In 2017, the streaming service extended the agreement. Since then, Sandler has been responsible for more than a dozen films and comedy specials for Netflix as both actor and producer.
