There were phases when Bushido (47) barely opened his own apartment door anymore. The rapper has now described in the current episode of the podcast "Im Bett mit Anna-Maria und Anis Ferchichi" just how bad his anxiety states became at times. Two stressors came together back then: the severe marital crisis with his wife Anna-Maria (44) and the life-threatening accident of their son.
"You know yourself that my anxiety states were extremely bad, that I sometimes didn't go out", the 47-year-old says to his wife. He mostly kept these states to himself. According to her own statements, Anna-Maria didn't notice any of it and interpreted his behavior as indifference, which additionally put massive strain on their marriage.
A silence that burdened the marriage
The pressure during the separation phase was enormous for him. Starting last early fall, Anis Ferchichi, his civil name, and Anna-Maria lived separately for about half a year. The anxiety lay on him back then "like a lead vest during an X-ray". Only late did he draw the consequence - and broke his silence. Last year he attended his therapy seven days a week. Even today he still sits with his therapist once a week.
One thought wouldn't let go of him: losing his wife and seeing the children grow up without both parents in the future. Although he had moved into his own apartment, in the mornings he often showed up at his family's doorstep again shortly before six o'clock. The children shouldn't even notice that their father spent the nights elsewhere.
Another shock was added to the already fragile situation. Son Djibi, now twelve years old, had a serious accident during a summer vacation. The boy fell from a so-called water sofa that a boat was towing behind it. A rope injured his arm so severely that he had to undergo emergency surgery. Such an experience takes away one's "positive naivety", Bushido says in the podcast. After that, it's hard to step outside carefree in the morning and simply trust that nothing will happen. He knows exactly this feeling from his own battle with anxiety.
Professionally, he didn't find peace during this time either. In the middle of the separation, he sat in front of the camera for "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" and had to manage long shooting days and contractual obligations. He had his sons Djibi and Issa with him at the hotel. When tears overcame him, he withdrew to the bathroom so the children wouldn't notice anything.
Back together
Today the crisis is behind the couple. Bushido and Anna-Maria live with their family in Grünwald near Munich and, according to their own statements, now talk more openly about feelings and mental stress. "Something good has emerged from the crisis", the rapper says. Family life has recovered. Already in May, Anna-Maria had explained that both had arrived in a completely normal parental everyday life. They hadn't wished for anything more.
