Britney Spears (44) caused a scene on one of Los Angeles' busiest freeways that hardly anyone could miss. On Thursday, the singer stood upright through the sunroof of a black Mercedes SUV while the vehicle was traveling on the highway in heavy traffic. Other drivers pulled out their phones: photos show how she threw her head back into the wind and spread her arms over the roof.

After the images sparked discussions online, Spears herself spoke out. She shared one of the photos on Instagram. "What people see is two seconds of madness where I bow before the gentlemen!!!!!", she wrote. "But the days and hours of my reality!!!!!! Nothing is as it seems." She concluded the post with the words: "Psss, I think I need to come out of the roof a whole lot more often."

This is followed by a second image showing a curled-up child on a bed.

The moment wasn't quite as spectacular as it looked, a source told the "Daily Mail". "Britney just briefly looked through the sunroof", an insider explained. She wanted to see what was causing the traffic jam and how much longer the drive would take. "She did this all the time as a child in the South. She loves having the warm wind blow through her hair in summer." Spears is having a beautiful summer and is at a good point.

Trouble Behind the Wheel

The freeway appearance comes at a time when Spears is already under close scrutiny. In March, the singer was arrested in California for driving under the influence. The arrest was preceded a few months earlier by a drive during which she was reportedly noticeably unsteady after a night of partying.

Earlier this year, she brought the case to a close. She waived an appeal and accepted a conviction on the lesser charge of reckless driving. She was sentenced to twelve months' probation, must pay a fine, and complete a driving program.

Biopic Gains Momentum

Away from the headlines, a long-awaited project is moving forward. According to media reports, the biopic about the mother of two is gaining traction. "New Girl" writer Liz Meriwether has reportedly been hired for an early script draft, and "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt are also on board.
