Gaby Köster (64) celebrated the NRW premiere of the new cinema film "Was haben wir gelacht" in Cologne together with prominent colleagues. The actress, comedian and author, who suffered a severe stroke in 2008 and relies on a wheelchair, is pictured at the event on the red carpet with Maren Kroymann (76), Bettina Böttinger (70), Hella von Sinnen (67) and Esther Schweins (56), among others.
The documentary "Was haben wir gelacht" by Eva Müller and Isabel Schneider is about the image of women in German television in the 1990s. Maren Kroymann, Hella von Sinnen, Gaby Köster, Bettina Böttinger and Esther Schweins talk about their experiences during this era dominated by male entertainers, as a trailer for the film shows, which opens in cinemas next week.
Gaby Köster plagued by financial worries
Gaby Köster rarely appears in public anymore. Just in mid-June, she made her difficult financial situation public. 18 years after the stroke that ended her successful television career, the comedian spoke to "Bunte" magazine about money worries that keep her awake at night. "The reserves from the good times have long been used up. I'm living off my overdraft and have taken out a loan against my house", Köster told the magazine. "That really gives me sleepless nights."
She is particularly tormented by thoughts of her 33-year-old son: "I never wanted my son to inherit debts from me." He almost moved her to tears with one sentence: "Mom, my darling - when I finish my studies, I'll earn well, that will be enough for both of us."
Köster, who became known through TV shows including "RTL Samstag Nacht", "7 Tage, 7 Köpfe" and her comedy series "Ritas Welt", had already written about the time after the stroke in the book "Ein Schnupfen hätte auch gereicht - meine zweite Chance", which was published in 2011 and later adapted into a film. In the same year, she also appeared in public for the first time again.
