Nobody involved in the anniversary celebration of "Bottle Rocket" (German title: "Durchgeknallt") had imagined the ending would be like this. On Monday U.S. time, "Grand Budapest Hotel" director Wes Anderson (57), Oscar winner James L. Brooks (86), and actor star Luke Wilson ("Idiocracy", 54) were stuck for about half an hour in an elevator at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The Hollywood celebrities were eventually freed by firefighters from the City of Los Angeles, as reported by the "Hollywood Reporter" among others.
Elevator Possibly Overloaded
The celebration at the museum, which opened in 2021 and is operated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, marked the 30th anniversary of Anderson's feature film debut "Bottle Rocket". The film not only gave the iconic filmmaker his breakthrough. It also made stars of lead actors Luke and Owen Wilson ("Starsky & Hutch", 57).
The trade magazine reports on an Instagram video showing Anderson and company leaving the elevator. In it, the filmmaker asks a firefighter if there was "a theory" about why the elevator got stuck. The firefighter responds that the weight limit may have been exceeded.
Known for Star-Studded Ensemble Films
Anderson most recently brought "Der phönizische Meisterstreich" to cinemas worldwide last year. The star-studded work features Scarlett Johansson (41), Tom Hanks (69), Benedict Cumberbatch (49), and Benicio del Toro (59), among others. It tells the story of industrialist Zsa-Zsa Korda (del Toro), who survives numerous assassination attempts on his life unscathed and ultimately tries to make his only daughter, Catholic novice Liesl (Mia Threapleton, 25), his successor.
For several years now, Anderson has been regularly directing artful ensemble films featuring plenty of world stars.
