Actor Armin Rohde (71) burst into tears on "Kölner Treff". On the WDR talk show on Friday, the topic turned to his dog Ike. The TV star had to say goodbye to the animal in 2022.
On the show, which was produced this time in cooperation with "Tiere suchen ein Zuhause", Armin Rohde recalled how he rescued his dog, a bulldog, from an animal shelter in Bergheim in 2014. He had previously seen him on "Tiere suchen ein Zuhause" and was "shocked in love", the 71-year-old said. The acting star added that the dog didn't look as cute at the shelter as he did on the show.
"I didn't realize how hard it would hit"
Nevertheless, Armin Rohde took Ike, who was his first dog, into his heart. When images of the animal were shown on "Kölner Treff", tears welled up in the actor's eyes. He explained that he hadn't realized "how much it hurts when you lose an animal". The farewell is the hardest part, "you have to be mentally prepared for it". Rohde added on the TV show: "I didn't realize how hard it would hit."
Armin Rohde also shared an emotional post on Instagram about saying goodbye to Ike in January 2022. Alongside photos of the 45-kilogram four-legged friend, he explained at the time: "Yesterday my best buddy, my funny, stoic, sometimes rowdy, gluttonous, cuddly and devoted Ike crossed the rainbow bridge. We had to let him go. Now he's no longer in pain. Sometime and somewhere we'll see each other again, sweet furball."
The actor, who is known from films including "Der bewegte Mann" and "Nachtschicht", has since taken in another dog: Tippsi, rescued from Ukraine, has moved in with Rohde.
