Through her spokesperson, actress Jaime King (47) has explained why her son Leo Thames (10) was absent from Taylor Swift's (36) wedding. The ten-year-old is the singer's godson but did not attend the celebration on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. Numerous fans noticed his absence.

"The reason Jaime chose Taylor as godmother for Leo Thames is that both believe that godparenthood is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances", "Page Six" quotes King's publicist Jane Owen. The boy is "still too young for a large adult wedding celebration". He and his mother instead celebrated the nuptials "in their own very special, age-appropriate way during his summer vacation".

Close Friendship Since 2014

King and Swift met at a party during the 2014 Golden Globes. The encounter quickly became a close friendship, and just one year later, the "White Chicks" actress asked the pop star to become her son's godmother. Their paths also crossed professionally: King's now ex-husband Kyle Newman directed Swift's 2015 music video for "Style".

However, the relationship doesn't seem to have been entirely tension-free recently. Back in April 2025, a source told "Page Six" that King and Swift had been "out of touch for a long time". King "misses Taylor" and hopes for a reconciliation. Nevertheless, the actress expressed enthusiasm about the engagement to Kelce in November 2025 to "Us Weekly". She was "so happy", saying Kelce is exactly the right man for the singer.

Other Godchildren Also Stayed Away

King and her son weren't the only ones who stayed away from the celebration. According to "Page Six", none of Swift's five godchildren appeared at the wedding. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were also absent, whose children the singer also serves as godmother to. Their friendship with Swift reportedly suffered due to Lively's legal dispute with her "It Ends With Us" co-star Justin Baldoni. A source told "People" in May 2025 that Lively and Swift were taking "some distance" from each other. The report came shortly after a subpoena that Swift received from Baldoni's attorneys. According to "Page Six", the flower girl roles were filled solely by the daughters of Kelce's brother Jason.

Around 1,000 Guests at Madison Square Garden

About 1,000 guests gathered for the ceremony at Madison Square Garden, including Tom Hanks, Simone Biles, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, and music producer Jack Antonoff. According to her spokesperson, Swift wore a haute couture gown by Christian Dior, and comedian Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony. Brother Austin Swift served as the bride's "Man of Honor", while Jason Kelce was the groom's best man. The couple announced their engagement in August 2025 with a playful Instagram post: "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married", it read, garnished with a dynamite emoji.
