Timothée Chalamet (30) took a playful jab at soccer during a worldwide fan event for "Dune: Part Three". Warner Bros. had connected fans live in eight IMAX theaters around the globe for the event on Wednesday, including a venue in Berlin. In the middle of the greeting round, the French-American actor directed his dig at the German viewers: "I'm sorry about what happened to Germany at the World Cup."
Grinning, he waited for a reaction from the capital. However, none came, as footage from "Entertainment Tonight" shows. The comment was not technically audible in Berlin. Only later did recordings of the scene circulate on social networks.
The German national team supporters weren't the only ones to catch it that evening. When host Daniel Boschmann (45) asked the Berlin audience to turn on their phone lights and wave them through the venue like at a concert, the German location stood out particularly on the screens. Chalamet promptly lost his train of thought. "What's going on in Berlin? Are you at a rave?", he asked laughing, according to "Bild" newspaper.
The actor also repeatedly drew the other cities into his jokes. When the connection to Montreal briefly broke down, he inquired with director Denis Villeneuve (58) in mock concern whether everything was okay with the Canadian's family. At the end, Chalamet said he would love to do such fan rounds daily.
Avowed Sports Fan
The fact that Chalamet specifically brought up the World Cup fits the picture. He regularly displays his passion for sports. Just recently, he celebrated the NBA triumph of the New York Knicks: First, he traveled solo to San Antonio to witness the decisive final victory live, then he moved through the championship parade in New York wearing a blue-and-orange hoodie.
"Dune: Part Three", the third and final part of Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel, opens in the USA on December 18. In addition to Chalamet, the cast includes Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Robert Pattinson.
