Six years after their withdrawal to the USA, known as "Megxit," Prince Harry (41) and Duchess Meghan (44) may be facing a return that was hardly thought possible anymore. For their visit to Great Britain next month, the couple is expected to stay in a royal residence - and for the first time in four years, they're bringing their children. This is reported by The Sun.
Due to Harry's security concerns, the couple could even stay at Buckingham Palace. An insider points out that it is the "most secure building in Great Britain." King Charles (77) is also said to be overjoyed at the prospect of seeing his grandchildren Archie (7) and Lilibet (5) again.
A Reunion with the Grandchildren
According to the report, there is "an agreement" for Charles to meet Archie and Lilibet. The Sussexes, who live in California, had long resisted bringing the children - ever since Harry was stripped of his right to state-provided personal protection following Megxit in January 2020. Charles has not seen his grandchildren, who are sixth and seventh in line to the throne, since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Meghan is also said to have agreed to stay in royal accommodation with armed guards. For her, it would be the first return since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. Whether she will accompany Harry and the children for the meeting with the King remains unclear.
Appointments Before the Invictus Games
Last week it was announced that the entire family will accompany Harry when he visits Birmingham and London from July 6 to 10 for appointments ahead of his Invictus Games next year. A meeting with his brother William (43), the Prince of Wales, is not expected, however. The two are said to have not spoken since the Queen's funeral.
Various royal estates are being considered for accommodation. Buckingham Palace is currently empty due to a renovation costing around 425 million euros; Harry had previously declined overnight stay offers. However, insiders emphasize that the palace is the most secure building in the country, guarded by the Household Division and armed police officers. St. James's Palace, Windsor Castle, or Frogmore Cottage, the Sussexes' former home, could also be options.
Hope for Reconciliation
In May 2025, Harry spoke to the BBC about his hope for reconciliation. In September, he met with Charles for less than 45 minutes at Clarence House, bringing along a framed photo of his children. The family was last together in Great Britain in June 2022 for the Platinum Jubilee, also staying at Frogmore Cottage at the time.
