Matthew McConaughey (56) and Woody Harrelson (64) appeared together in front of the camera for a new comedy series. As Apple announces, "Brothers" will premiere worldwide on September 23. The launch begins with the first two episodes, followed by a new episode every Wednesday on Apple TV until November 4. The first season comprises a total of eight episodes.

In the series, the two actors portray fictionalized versions of themselves. Their long friendship is thrown into turmoil when they uncover an old secret: They might be brothers. The trigger is the canceled wedding of Woody's daughter, after which he and his family head to Matthew's ranch in Austin for an extended stay. In addition to the two, Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, and Oona Yaffe are also part of the series cast.

Reunion after "True Detective"

For McConaughey and Harrelson, it's a reunion in front of the camera: They last appeared together in the acclaimed first season of the crime series "True Detective". Both also serve as executive producers on "Brothers". Lee Eisenberg, who worked on the series "The Office" among others, is responsible as showrunner. Trent O'Donnell directed several episodes, including the pilot.

The plot is based on speculation regarding the real-life friendship of the two stars. Rumors have been circulating for some time that McConaughey and Harrelson could be related. In 2023, Harrelson suggested that his father had a brief relationship with McConaughey's mother, which fueled the assumption that the two could be half-brothers.

Speaking to "Esquire" magazine, Harrelson said at the time: "We haven't done a test, but there are too many moments when I think to myself: My God, the similarities! The things he does, the things he says - just the way he is. I've been feeling that for years."
