After a 13-year hiatus, Sat.1 and Joyn are bringing back a true TV classic: The network is continuing its courtroom show "Richter Alexander Hold". As the broadcaster announced, the formerly popular legal format is getting new episodes. The return was announced on Thursday at the Screenforce Festival in Düsseldorf, where the networks present their programming plans to a trade audience.

This marks the return of one of the defining figures of afternoon programming. "Richter Alexander Hold" aired from 2001 to 2013 and was considered a reliable ratings driver on Sat.1's afternoon schedule during that time. After being canceled 13 years ago, Alexander Hold (64) is now taking his seat behind the judge's bench once again to decide on law and justice in staged proceedings.

From State Parliament Back to the Courtroom

For Alexander Hold, it's a return to familiar territory, albeit from a new life. The former TV judge is now active in Bavarian politics and sits in the state parliament for the Free Voters party. With this comeback, he joins a lineup of television judges from the early 2000s who have recently returned to the camera.

RTL has also revived the courtroom show genre in the afternoon slot: with Barbara Salesch (76), who previously presided at Sat.1, and with Ulrich Wetzel (69), who had already been deployed at RTL earlier. Afternoon court is currently experiencing a small renaissance, and Sat.1 is now following suit with one of its most recognizable faces.

Sat.1 left the exact details of the reboot open on Thursday. The network has not yet provided information about the time slot, start date, or scope of the new season. The previous episodes ran 45 minutes, and to date, 2,038 episodes were broadcast across a total of twelve seasons. Thanks to "Richter Alexander Hold", lawyer Ingo Lenßen (65) also became famous, regularly appearing there as a defense attorney.
