Starting now, Cowboy Woody (voiced by Michael Bully Herbig, 58), Buzz Lightyear (Walter von Hauff, 77), and Jessie (Carolin Hartmann, 39), who takes on a more prominent role this time, can be seen on German cinema screens again. In Toy Story 5, the continuation of the iconic animated film franchise from Disney/Pixar, moviegoers will likely flock to theaters with their children who were still kids themselves when the first Toy Story film came to German cinemas in 1996.
Competition from a Tablet
Even 30 years after Toy Story, the story of the fifth installment couldn't be more contemporary: In Pixar's 31st animated film, analog toys like Cowgirl Jessie are in direct competition with technology for the children's attention. Because owner Bonnie (Madeleine Tanfal) is completely fascinated by her first tablet called Lilypad (Laura Maire, 46).

Global Phenomenon
In the USA and many parts of the planet, Toy Story 5 has already launched in theaters - and has so far reached a breathtaking box office result of over 960 million US dollars. With the release in Germany and continued visitor numbers during the summer months and school vacation time, the Pixar Studios' work will easily crack the billion-dollar box office mark - just like Toy Story 3 and 4 before it.
But Pixar's long-running franchise, which has already been honored with four Academy Awards, is so much more than just the second most successful animated film series in cinema history to date (behind the Despicable Me/Minions franchise).
The series has always captivated audiences with its inventiveness, unparalleled humor, a lot of heart, and a touch of adventure. Viewers also don't miss the special attention to detail that Pixar's animators put into their works.
And Toy Story was the first fully computer-animated feature film in cinema history. Pixar Studios also changed the film world technically. Now they're setting out to once again conquer the hearts of German moviegoers.
