After roughly six weeks in US cinemas, Toy Story 5 has reached two milestones. The fifth installment of the animated series has now grossed over one billion dollars worldwide. According to US media, the worldwide total stands at 1.022 billion dollars after this weekend. With this box office result, Toy Story 5 has also become the highest-grossing film globally for the 2026 cinema year.
The release of Toy Story 5 in Germany also contributed to breaking the billion-dollar barrier. The film only premiered here on July 23. In the USA, it already debuted in cinemas on June 19.
Toy Story 5 overtook these two billion-dollar films
This year, only two films have grossed more than one billion US dollars worldwide so far. Toy Story 5 left both narrowly behind: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has earned 1.011 billion dollars since its early April release. In third place on the global year charts is Michael. The portrait of Michael Jackson (1958-2009) has generated 1.010 billion US dollars since its late April debut.
The Odyssey could become the fourth film to cross the billion mark, according to experts. After its second weekend in cinemas worldwide, Christopher Nolan's (55) epic has already brought in 640 million US dollars at the box office.
Toy Story 5 is already the third film in the toy saga to gross more than one billion dollars. Part three earned 1.067 billion in 2010, while the sequel achieved an even higher 1.074 billion dollars in 2019.
For production studio Pixar, Toy Story 5 is the sixth work to clear the billion-dollar hurdle. Besides the three Toy Story films, Finding Dory, Incredibles 2, and Inside Out 2 also achieved this feat.
