The news of the death of Irish musician and actor Glen Hansard (1970-2026) shocked many people over the past week. Shortly before his funeral on August 4, thousands of fans gathered in Ireland's capital Dublin to publicly say goodbye to the deceased.
The Hansard family had announced that the musician would lie in state in Dublin today, August 3, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., so that all those who wished to pay their last respects could do so. According to the Irish broadcaster RTÉ, more than 11,000 people came together on Monday.
Two Guitars, Flowers and Cards
Also present was Markéta Irglová (38), with whom Hansard not only appeared in the 2007 film "Once". The two also wrote and performed the song "Falling Slowly" at the time, for which they were awarded an Oscar in 2008 in the "Best Original Song" category.
According to the report, Hansard lay in state in the chapel accompanied by music, with two guitars at the foot of his coffin. People left flowers, cards and short messages as tokens of their appreciation.
Glen Hansard, who was also known as the frontman of the band The Frames, among other things, died in a motorcycle accident in the early morning of July 29, 2026. The funeral service will take place on August 4 starting at 1:30 p.m., also in Dublin.
While the service will be open to the public, due to the expected crowds, not all mourners will likely find space in St. Patrick's Cathedral. The funeral service will also be broadcast on Irish television and online.
