They were married for over 30 years, but recently Elke Sommer (85) had to say goodbye to her husband Wolf Walther. The German actress and the son of the deceased confirmed this to the "Bild" newspaper. Walther, to whom Sommer had been married since 1993, lost a long battle against cancer.
According to the report, the two used to commute between Los Angeles and the small town of Marloffstein in Franconia. In 2025, however, they moved to the USA completely because Walther's doctors were there and the travel had become too arduous. According to his son Sebastian, Wolf Walther peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on July 22. Walther's daughter Caroline and the two granddaughters were also present.
"Ultimately a release for him"
"Dad had become bedridden, couldn't get up anymore," he confirms. "That he could let go was ultimately a release for him." Sommer reportedly feels empty. "My heart is broken," she explains. About two and a half months ago, Sebastian Walther visited his father and his wife Elke Sommer in the States and stayed there when he saw that the two needed help.
Sommer became famous in Hollywood in the 1960s. At the time, she received a Golden Globe as best newcomer actress of the year for "Der Preis," in which she starred alongside Paul Newman (1925-2008). Walther was her second husband.
