It would be a major coup in the German music scene. However, what Dieter Bohlen (72) and certainly many fans wish for will probably not come true. According to the current status, there will be no stage comeback of Modern Talking. His former bandmate Thomas Anders (63) has categorically ruled out a return. In a personal statement published on the singer's Instagram account, he explains his point of view.
Modern Talking Comeback is not up for discussion
The message starts directly with the clear announcement that Anders does not want to celebrate a stage reunion with Bohlen. A joint comeback is not up for discussion for me, the singer explains. His former colleague had previously publicly hoped for such a reunion. Anders considers the duo's history to be unique to this day and is, among other things, proud of the many successes and grateful for the large fan base that the two were able to build up. Currently, Modern Talking can record up to 450 million streams per year according to his information, which shows that our music still inspires people all over the world today.
At the same time, I am happy and proud that I have successfully built my own career after our separation 23 years ago, Anders continues to explain. Looking forward, he wants to continue focusing on that in the future. Especially on my Germany tour next year, where I will celebrate the greatest hits of Modern Talking, as I do at all my concerts, he continues. Everyone is invited. The duo's songs will continue to be heard live in the future, but not performed by Bohlen and Anders together.
Bohlen recently spoke of childish nonsense
Anders had already rejected a Modern Talking reunion several times in the past. Bohlen, on the other hand, recently explained in an interview with the Bild newspaper: I think it's childish nonsense if, for many years, because of something Thomas once did or what I did, you don't at least think about reviving our joint success.
According to Bohlen, there have been offers for an international concert series with ten shows, for a Modern Talking musical and a documentary. Bohlen openly dreamed of huge concerts. If we do a concert at Schalke or in Volksparkstadion, as many people will come as for Helene Fischer. I'm convinced of that, said the singer and music producer.
Modern Talking was one of the most successful German pop acts in the 1980s. However, Bohlen and Anders dissolved the duo. A later comeback was not long-lasting. The two separated again in the 2000s. The major hits of Modern Talking included, among others, Cheri Cheri Lady and You're My Heart, You're My Soul.
