Antoine Monot (51) is finding it hard to say goodbye to "Ein Fall für zwei". ZDF is canceling the series after 46 years. The final season with four episodes will air in 2027, followed by a concluding TV movie. "First and foremost, I'm sad because it was really great and wonderful work", says the actor, who portrays attorney Benjamin "Benni" Hornberg, to the news agency spot on news. He greatly enjoyed working with co-star Wanja Mues (52) alias Leo Oswald, the production company, and ZDF.

Monot looks back on the past years with gratitude: "I've been working in this profession for 34 years now, and being allowed to do something for 13 years is a complete exception in my professional life." He was always aware that a series would end at some point. That makes him all the more grateful to have been part of the show for so long.

Monot looks forward to final shoot

According to his own statements, Monot learned about the series' cancellation "a few" days before the official announcement by the network. ZDF told him "that they were sorry and that they value the show". He was pleased about that.

His time on "Ein Fall für zwei" isn't quite over yet: "We're shooting an 'Ein Fall für zwei' TV movie next year. I'm really looking forward to that. We'll come back to Frankfurt with the team, it'll be great." And how does he envision his character's farewell? "I haven't thought about that yet", the actor admits.

Crime team since 2014

Antoine Monot and Wanja Mues have been appearing together in the Friday evening crime show since 2014. Previously, Claus Theo Gärtner (83) defined the series. From 1981 to 2013, he played detective Josef Matula. After his departure, the series was relaunched and continued with the new investigator duo.

Starting in September, Monot and Mues can be seen in the twelfth season. In it, Hornberg and Oswald solve four cases. In "Millionär für eine Nacht" they investigate a businessman, in "Drei Mütter" it's about a murder a woman allegedly committed against her sister. In "Größenwahn" a dead motivational coach raises questions, in "Dunkle Schatten" a woman is accused of murdering her husband. The four episodes will be available in advance on ZDF's streaming portal.
