Tom Cruise (64) is thrilled about the epic "The Odyssey". The action star got to see the film before its US theatrical release on July 17. After the screening, he praised director Christopher Nolan (55), his wife and co-producer Emma Thomas (54), and everyone else involved.
"Wow! To Chris, Emma, and the entire brilliant cast and crew: Thank you for a fantastic evening at the cinema", he wrote on Instagram. "I can't wait to see the film again!" He also shared a picture of himself proudly holding up his ticket to the camera.
Christopher Nolan spares no expense
In Germany, "The Odyssey" already opened in theaters on Thursday. For his first film after the Oscar success "Oppenheimer", Nolan assembled a high-caliber ensemble: Matt Damon takes on the lead role of Odysseus, Anne Hathaway portrays his wife Penelope, and Tom Holland plays their son Telemachus. Robert Pattinson appears as Antinous, one of Penelope's suitors. Zendaya plays the goddess Athena. The cast also includes Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong'o, among others.
Nolan also set new standards in production. He became the first filmmaker ever to shoot a complete feature film with 70mm IMAX film cameras. For the shoot, the team traveled to Morocco, Greece, Italy, Iceland, and Scotland, among other locations. The elaborate project reportedly cost around 250 million US dollars.
Tom Cruise back in theaters starting October
Tom Cruise will also return to the big screen this year. Starting October 1, he can be seen in the satire "Digger". In it, he plays the title character Digger Rockwell - an eccentric and powerful oil billionaire. The character is considered the most powerful man in the world, who must prevent a catastrophe that he himself triggered.
