Thailand's beach has so far been a terrain for B- and C-list celebrities in the reality world. That's changing: Sat.1 is opening its format "Promis unter Palmen" for the first time to contestants without celebrity status. Under the title "Normalos unter Palmen - Für Geld mache ich wirklich alles!", the network is searching for people from real life who want to face the challenges in the villa by the sea.

From celebrity format to experiment for everyone

In four seasons to date of "Promis unter Palmen - Für Geld mache ich alles", more or less prominent guests have amused themselves and quarreled in the villa under palm trees, spilled secrets, and occasionally hurled insults at each other. This exact dynamic is now meant to work for non-celebrities as well. Those who apply can ultimately win the same trophy as the stars before them: the Golden Coconut.

The network isn't changing the basic principle. Different personalities live together under permanent camera surveillance, share the pool and terrace, and inevitably clash. Those who want to remain in paradise must fight their way through trials on the beach that are exhausting and sometimes quite disgusting. And specifically alongside those competitors with whom they may have just had a falling out.

RTL is therefore not the only network with a spin-off of a successful celebrity reality show with its "Sommerhaus" spin-off "Das Sommerhaus der Normalos". The search for suitable "Normalos unter Palmen" residents begins this summer. The new reality show will air in 2027 on Sat.1, with episodes also available for free on Joyn. The palm tree experiment joins a series of reality formats that Sat.1 is rolling out in the coming months.

These reality shows are waiting in the wings

"Villa der Versuchung" kicks things off on Monday, August 3. Fourteen celebrities compete there for a jackpot of 250,000 euros, but every luxury in the villa has its price. Participants include Jenny Elvers, "Prince Charming" Nicolas Puschmann, society lady Tatjana Gsell, Thorsten Legat, and content creator Satansbratan. Day after day, the question arises whether to indulge or abstain.

In the fall, the 14th season of "Promi Big Brother" follows. This time, Big Brother leads his residents into the garden, which is likely to prove anything but idyllic. Marlene Lufen and Jochen Schropp host the daily live broadcasts, with a 24-hour livestream running simultaneously on Joyn.
