It's often the small details in makeup that make the biggest difference. Just a bit of kohl on the waterline can give the eyes an alluring expression. For the look to succeed and last all day, there are a few tips to keep in mind.
Preparing and Applying Makeup to the Waterline
Before applying, the rest of the eye makeup should already be complete. This doesn't have to be particularly glamorous, but can also consist of just nude and brown tones, since the kohl creates enough intensity on its own.
To prepare, gently dab the waterline with a cotton swab. The drier it is, the better the color will hold. The kohl should also be well sharpened. Then gently pull the skin downward so the waterline is clearly visible. The kohl can then be carefully applied. It's important not to rub back and forth too vigorously, as this can quickly make the eyes water.
For more intensity, a bit of black eyeshadow can be gently patted on top. A touch of powder on the lower edge additionally helps make the color last longer. You can work on the upper waterline in the same way. There, you'll immediately notice that the lash line appears fuller. If you like, you can also add a small kohl line at the outer corner of the eye. This creates a softer effect than a wing drawn with gel eyeliner, yet still lifts the eye area.
How to Make the Look Even More Intense
Depending on the desired look, the effect can be further enhanced by applying some brown eyeshadow under the lower lash line and blending it outward. False lashes additionally emphasize the effect. For those who find black on the waterline too harsh, you can also opt for dark brown. This shade pairs particularly well with green and hazel eyes.
However, keep in mind: when a dark color is applied to the waterline, the eyes appear smaller. While this creates an intense cat-eye effect, it's not very flattering for eyes that are already on the smaller side.
