King Charles III (77) and Queen Camilla (78) once again led the traditional carriage procession at Royal Ascot on Friday. For the royal couple, it was already the fourth consecutive day they spent at the horse race in Berkshire. In summery temperatures of 82 degrees Fahrenheit, the monarch appeared in good spirits wearing a top hat and yellow vest, waving to the crowd, as reported by the British "Hello" magazine among others. By his side, Camilla wore a light blue ensemble.
In the first carriage, alongside the royal couple, sat Prince Saud bin Khalid bin Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al Said, a prominent Saudi businessman from the royal house, as well as John Warren, the long-time racing manager of the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (78) also participated in the carriage procession with his wife Lady Madeleine (63) - following Hollywood star Stanley Tucci (65) the day before.
A Day in Honor of the Armed Forces
Friday also stood in the spirit of Armed Forces Day. Among the guests were high-ranking military representatives accordingly, including General Sir Roly Walker, the Chief of the British Army.
A rare appearance caused a stir: 18-year-old James Mountbatten-Windsor was spotted at the racecourse. The son of Prince Edward (62) and Duchess Sophie (61), currently 16th in line to the British throne, accompanied his mother to the event and also wore a top hat. Public appearances are the exception for the young royal, as he usually stays in the background. His sister Lady Louise Windsor (22) was not present this time.
Duchess Sophie's Wedding Anniversary
The visit fell on a special date: Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary on Friday. The day also had plenty to offer in terms of fashion. Zara Tindall (45), the daughter of Princess Anne (75), presented herself on the fourth race day in a polka-dotted dress with a belt, combined with a matching hat, black pumps, and a patent leather bag.
