Following Mette-Marit's (52) lung transplant, her mother-in-law Queen Sonja (88) has also visited the Crown Princess in the hospital. The Norwegian magazine "Se og Hør" published a photo on Thursday allegedly showing the monarch getting out of her car in front of Oslo's Rikshospitalet. Sonja's husband King Harald V (89) was not present according to the report. However, it is not known when the photo was taken.

Family members coming and going

Sonja is not the only relative who has visited Mette-Marit after the operation. According to "Se og Hør", her husband Crown Prince Haakon (52) and their daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra (22) were also with her. The newspaper "Verdens Gang" also published photos allegedly showing son Prince Sverre Magnus (20) at the hospital on Wednesday.

Reportedly, Marius Borg Høiby (29) was also allowed to visit her - accompanied by police. Mette-Marit's son from a previous relationship is currently in custody. On Monday, he was sentenced to a four-year prison term for, among other things, two counts of assault. The verdict is not yet final, with Høiby's side having announced plans to appeal.

Mette-Marit to remain in hospital for several weeks

The Norwegian palace announced on Wednesday morning that Mette-Marit had received a new lung. "The Crown Princess has undergone a successful lung transplant at Rikshospitalet in Oslo", the statement said. The Crown Princess will remain in the hospital for several more weeks. Are Holm, head of the relevant department at Rikshospitalet, further explained that the routine hospital stay serves to adjust medications, monitor possible complications, and provide rehabilitation. Crown Prince Haakon is adjusting his schedule to be able to support his wife.

Mette-Marit publicly revealed in 2018 that she suffers from the chronic disease pulmonary fibrosis. In early June, the palace announced that she was on the waiting list for a donor lung.
