A royal appearance as a trio: Princess Mabel of the Netherlands (57) appeared over the weekend together with her two daughters on the green carpet of the Amsterdam Diner. As the Dutch magazine "Libelle" reported, it was the first time that both countesses accompanied their mother to the event.

Debut for Countess Luana

The charity gala attracted prominent guests from home and abroad, including personalities from the arts and media, politicians, HIV researchers, and leading figures from the Dutch business community. In the midst of it all: Princess Mabel, who has been one of the event's most dedicated ambassadors for years. For the occasion, she chose a dress by the label Needle & Thread, which she had already worn before.

The widow of Prince Friso (1968-2013) and sister-in-law of King Willem-Alexander (59) was accompanied by her two daughters. While the younger Countess Zaria (19) had accompanied her mother to such events before, her older sister, Countess Luana van Oranje-Nassau (21), made her debut at a charity event that evening. Her presence underscored the commitment of a new generation to the mission of the Amsterdam Diner, according to the organization.

Both Countesses Are Studying

At the presentation of the Prince Friso Engineering Prize in Eindhoven in March, Princess Mabel revealed that her youngest daughter is studying at the renowned Technical University in Delft, which is known for its engineering education, while Countess Luana is studying Modern History and Art History at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Prince Friso himself had studied mechanical engineering as well as aerospace engineering, and subsequently economics.

While he worked for an investment bank in London from 1998 to 2003, he met the commoner Mabel Wisse Smit. The couple got engaged in 2003 and married in 2004 in Delft.

20th Birthday Coming Up

2012 became a fateful year for the family: Prince Friso was buried by an avalanche on February 17 during a skiing vacation in Lech am Arlberg, Austria, and subsequently lay in a coma for 18 months. He finally passed away at Huis ten Bosch Palace on August 12, 2013, leaving behind Mabel as a widow and their two young daughters, who have since grown into young women. A special day is coming up in just a few days: On June 18, Countess Zaria will turn 20 years old.
