A new chapter in life will soon begin for Prince George (12). Like Prince William (44) before him, he will attend Eton College. An insider close to the family is now said to have revealed that young George has always wanted to emulate his father.
"George has always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps", the anonymous source has now told "People". It became known in mid-June that Prince George will attend the prestigious Eton College. A palace spokesperson confirmed to several media outlets, including the US magazine, that George will attend the famous boys' school starting next September.
The eldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate (44) turns 13 on July 22, reaching the typical admission age for attending the school. This will also end his time at school with his siblings Charlotte (11) and Louis (8). The three have all attended Lambrook School in Berkshire until now.
Eton was already a "refuge" for William
For a long time, it was unclear which school the British heir to the throne and his wife would choose for their eldest child. Journalist and biographer Sally Bedell Smith believes that William already had good experiences at the private school. Eton was a "much-needed refuge" for the elder son of King Charles III (77), she tells the magazine. At the same time, the school will also provide George with the "rigorous education he will need for his future role". The young prince, as William's son, is second in line to the throne. While Eton stands for tradition, it has also moved with the times: "I believe their decision is based on the school's academic excellence and the diverse ways it prepares its students for leadership roles."
Ailsa Anderson, former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), is certain that both William and Kate thoroughly researched the subject of school selection before making their decision. She also explains: "William loved his time at Eton, but he will have thought carefully about which school would best suit George's strengths, qualities, and personality."
