Prime Video and RTL are flexing their muscles. The two entertainment giants are showing "Gladiators - Die Show der Giganten" both via streaming and later on linear TV. The format is based on the game show classic "American Gladiators", which was primarily popular in the 1990s. Initially, there will be five episodes to watch, which have already been recorded.

Amazon's streaming service announced on June 2nd when it will launch. Starting August 6th, all episodes of "Gladiators - Die Show der Giganten" will be available on Prime Video. On RTL, the first episodes will be shown on TV on September 4th and 5th. The remaining episodes will then be broadcast every Friday. In addition, the RTL Studios show will be shown via RTL+. The well-known former "Ninja Warrior Germany" trio Laura Wontorra (37), Jan Köppen (43), and Frank Buschmann (61) will host the show. Köppen continues with "Ninja Warrior" alongside Anna Fleischhauer (39) and Wolff Fuss (50).

What "Gladiators" is all about

It was already announced last year that "American Gladiators" would be revived in "a fresh, contemporary production". The show's concept stays true to the tried and tested formula. The format is promoted in a current announcement as "a spectacular showdown of strength", in which a total of 17 gladiators face challengers in 13 different games. Called "Contender" here, the contestants must prove themselves against the "Gladiators" Athena, Giant, Panther, Dragon, Laser, Comet, Phantom, Tornado, Legend, Fire, Hammer, Ice, Titan, Beast, Apollo, Diamond, and Dynamite.

The Contenders compete against Beast and company in the games for points that will give them advantages for a final obstacle course, the "Eliminator". In a total of eight preliminary rounds, two women and two men each compete as Contenders. In the "Eliminator", they face each other directly and try to reach the semifinals. In a finale, the "Gladiators Champion" is then crowned.
