"Ocean's Eleven" Prequel: Will Monica Barbaro Also Take on a Role?

The cast of the "Ocean's Eleven" prequel could receive prominent additions. Monica Barbaro is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. So far, the studio has only confirmed two lead actors.

Monica Barbaro (36) could take on a role in the "Ocean's Eleven" prequel. According to industry magazine "Deadline", the actress is currently in talks. It remains unclear which character the "Like a Complete Unknown" star will portray.

Overall, little is known about the film so far. However, one thing is certain: Margot Robbie (35) and Bradley Cooper (51) will be seen in the lead roles. Cooper is also responsible for the screenplay and directing. Wagner Moura (50) could play the antagonist. Most recently, US media had reported that he was in discussions with Warner Bros.

The studio itself has not yet commented on this, nor on the plot of the project. However, Margot Robbie provided a small glimpse at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April. According to this, the film does not focus on casino robber Danny Ocean, but rather on his parents - "two geniuses" who taught him everything, revealed the "Barbie" star according to "Variety". According to Robbie, they are planning a heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. She and Cooper will presumably step into the roles of the parents.

Another installment of the "Ocean's" series in development

Initially, the prequel struggled with difficulties in filling the director position. Originally, Jay Roach (69) was supposed to direct the film, but dropped out of the project. Subsequently, Lee Isaac Chung (47) was planned as his successor, but left the prequel due to creative differences. With Cooper, the director question is now definitively settled. A theatrical release date has also been set: The as-yet-untitled prequel is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2027.

It follows four films in the "Ocean's" series, which is inspired by the 1960 original "Ocean's 11". In 2001, the first installment called "Ocean's Eleven" was released with George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. In 2004 and 2007, Warner Bros. continued the series. "Ocean's 8" featured a completely new cast for the first time with actresses like Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway. In another film currently in development, the original main cast with Clooney and Co. is expected to return.
