The Norwegian palace has given a health update on Princess Astrid (94). "Princess Astrid would like to thank everyone for all the warm wishes she has received, as well as for the care that has been shown to her", explained Simen Løvberg Sund, communications advisor to the royal household, to the newspaper "Verdens Gang". He continued: "She wishes to convey that she is receiving good support and care, both from the medical staff and from others who are by her side."
The younger sister of King Harald V (89) was admitted to Oslo's Rikshospitalet in May due to heart failure. There, she received a pacemaker, as the palace announced on May 15. "Princess Astrid wishes to convey that she is in the best of hands. She will remain at Rikshospitalet for some time", it was stated at the time.
Second Hospital Stay in 2026
This is not the princess's first hospital stay this year. At the end of March, Astrid was admitted to Rikshospitalet. The palace confirmed to "Nettavisen" that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia. At the same time, it was stated that she was "on the road to recovery".
A few weeks later, the princess returned to public life. On May 4, she attended the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the organization Dysleksi Norge at Oslo City Hall. Astrid is patron of the organization, which advocates for people with reading and writing difficulties.
Mette-Marit Recovering After Surgery
Crown Princess Mette-Marit (52) has also given cause for concern recently. As early as 2018, the wife of Crown Prince Haakon (52) was diagnosed with the chronic lung disease pulmonary fibrosis. In June, she received a donor lung after her health condition had deteriorated significantly. She is now recovering from the procedure.
