It had already become known several days earlier that the Crown Prince would travel to Miami for the match to cheer on the team around Erling Haaland (25) in the stadium. At earlier games, his children Princess Ingrid Alexandra (22) and Prince Sverre Magnus (20) had already supported the team on site. For Haakon, it was the first trip abroad since his wife Mette-Marit's (52) lung transplant. The round of 16 match against Brazil on July 5 had been watched by the two of them together on the palace sofa in Oslo.

In Miami, the Crown Prince took his seat next to FIFA President Gianni Infantino late Saturday evening German time. Haakon wore a dark suit and showed his Norway support with a red scarf. Previously, he had even received the good wishes of Swedish Crown Princess Victoria (48) for the match in a phone call.

Both royal houses published images during the phone call. Victoria also congratulated Haakon on the successes of the Norwegian team during the World Cup, "which has inspired many people - even on the other side of the border".

After being eliminated from the tournament, the Norwegian royal house published several images from the evening on its official Instagram account and wrote: "Thanks for the adventure, guys."

While Haakon could not celebrate a victory in Miami, British Crown Prince William (44) cheered along from Great Britain. The Prince of Wales was among the first in the night to congratulate England on their advancement to the semifinal. William posted on social networks: "Well done, England! Top performance in a difficult environment." He praised that it was "a special team" and encouraged: "On to the semifinal..." There, the English will face Argentina on Wednesday. At the same time, William also expressed his "condolences to the proud Norwegian team".
