Princess Kate (44) remains true to her summer tradition. On Saturday, July 11, the Princess of Wales appeared at the penultimate tournament day of the Wimbledon Championships in London. The ladies' final, traditionally held on the last Saturday of the Grand Slam tournament, is one of the fixed dates in her calendar. Waving, she made her way to her usual seat in the front row of the Royal Box, the exclusive 74-seat area at Centre Court. By her side: her mother Carole Middleton.
The Princess has attended the most important British tennis tournament almost every year since her wedding to Prince William in 2011. For this year's appearance, Kate had chosen a red, fitted dress by the label Roland Mouret.
Patron since 2016
Kate is not only a spectator, but also patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which hosts Wimbledon. This role was transferred to her in 2016 by the late Queen Elizabeth II. Since then, she has regularly appeared at the venue and frequently presents the trophies herself at the ladies' and gentlemen's finals.
This Saturday, Kate had even more support from her family. Her younger brother James Middleton came with his wife Alizée Thevenet. On Instagram, the couple shared a photo of their color-coordinated outfits.
The Princess had already made her debut at this year's tournament edition on July 2. On that fourth day of play, she took her seat in the audience after greeting some fans who had queued overnight to secure a seat.
First early tournament visit since 2023
This visit was more than an ordinary appointment. It was the first time since 2023 that Kate had appeared in an early tournament round, and thus an important step after her cancer diagnosis. In the years 2024 and 2025, she had limited herself to the final weekends, prioritizing her health.
In March 2024, Kate publicly announced that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and significantly reduced her royal duties. In January 2025, she shared that she was in remission and gradually returned to a regular workload.
Tennis as a family affair
The sport also accompanies Kate privately. There are tennis courts at both Forest Lodge, her main residence in Windsor, and at Anmer Hall, the family's country estate in Norfolk. She likes to bring her loved ones to the finals at Wimbledon.
In 2025, she watched the last day of the tournament together with Prince William and the children Prince George (12) and Princess Charlotte (11). At that time, Jannik Sinner prevailed against Carlos Alcaraz in the men's final. A year earlier, Kate had attended the men's final with daughter Charlotte and her sister Pippa. In the midst of her cancer treatment, she received a standing ovation from the entire stadium.
