Nora Haukland (29) reports in an Instagram post about her emotional state following the verdict against Marius Borg Høiby (29). The Norwegian influencer, who raised serious allegations against the eldest son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit (52) and also testified in the high-profile trial, writes that she would be prepared for an appeal process.

Marius Borg Høiby was sentenced to four years in prison for, among other things, two counts of assault. He was also found guilty of abuse in close relationships toward Haukland. He had admitted to less serious charges, but continues to maintain his innocence on more serious counts. Høiby's side accordingly announced shortly after the verdict was announced that they intended to appeal.

Nora Haukland has received death threats

On June 18, Haukland published a lengthy Instagram post in which she addresses the allegations of domestic violence and shows a fighting spirit. Perhaps people have followed the trial, read about it, or even discussed it with friends or family, the influencer writes. For some, the topic feels distant, while others feel very close to it. She has received both hopeful messages and death threats, for example.

She knows numerous people who have experienced domestic violence. It leaves traces - and not just in the first moment, but for a long time afterward. The common denominator in assaults is not women who experience violence, but men who perpetrate violence. And trauma doesn't simply disappear. Even today, her pulse quickens when she hears a slamming door, a stomping man, or a roaring motorcycle. And she is not an isolated case, but one person among many.

"Maybe if I dress differently"

During the time she was with Marius, she constantly doubted herself. "Maybe if I dress differently. Maybe if I wear less makeup. Maybe if I take up less space. Maybe if I talk less. Maybe if I stop being an influencer", she thought at the time, for example. She tried to make herself smaller and to change. The result, however, was that it "only got worse".

Monday felt "like a small victory" for Haukland. Feeling that there is hope for justice in the legal system gave her warmth in a situation that "has otherwise been difficult, painful and exhausting". The influencer shows a fighting spirit: "If an appeal is filed against the verdict, I am prepared for it." She doesn't want to be silenced and won't remain silent either.
