For fans of the series "Vampire Diaries", it's a small sensation: Nina Dobrev (37) and Paul Wesley (43) are standing in front of the camera together again nine years after the end of the CW drama. The two are taking on the lead roles in the new Hulu series "You Deserve to Know" - while also serving as executive producers. Dobrev announced this on Instagram.
What the new series is about
The series is based on the thriller of the same name by Aggie Blum Thompson from 2025. According to the official synopsis, the plot revolves around three suburban married couples who are also neighbors and best friends. When one of the husbands is murdered, a series of shocking secrets come to light - and the friendships fall apart.
For Dobrev and Wesley, it's a return to the constellation that once made them famous. In "Vampire Diaries", they portrayed Elena and Stefan, a couple who become entangled in a love triangle when Elena falls in love with Stefan's brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder). While Wesley remained loyal to the series until the end, Dobrev was seen in the first six seasons and returned once more for the series finale.
How Dobrev announced the project
Dobrev revealed the announcement via her Instagram account: "I've been waiting to share this", she began her caption. "Paul Wesley and I are reuniting to produce and star in 'You Deserve to Know' as executive producers. We fell in love with this novel, and it's been incredibly exciting to help shape its adaptation from both sides of the camera." She also thanked partners Hulu, Unwell, Alexandra Cooper, and Kapital Entertainment.
In her Instagram story, she was even more mysterious: "Some things refuse to stay buried."
