Recently, Anne Hathaway (43) returned after twenty years with the second part of "The Devil Wears Prada." Now the comeback of one of her other cult films from the 2000s is drawing closer. In an interview with "People" magazine, producer Debra Martin Chase (69) has given an update on "The Princess Diaries 3." In fall 2024, Anne Hathaway announced via Instagram that after a 20-year break, a third installment of the comedy series would be coming. But nothing tangible has happened since then.

"We are moving in that direction"

"We are more than confident," Debra Martin Chase now said about filming for "The Princess Diaries 3" starting soon. "We are moving in that direction. We have already done a lot of groundwork," she added in her interview with "People."

According to the producer, who was already responsible for the first two films, filming was supposed to begin this year. But although that didn't happen, she promises that part three is coming soon.

"We are determined to make the project happen," said Debra Martin Chase. She and her team are thrilled "that people are so excited" about the film. "Every time something happens and we make another step forward, we think: 'Yay, okay, let's keep going!'" said the producer.

Plans for "The Princess Diaries 3" for ten years

As early as 2016, there were concrete plans for "The Princess Diaries 3." But that same year, Garry Marshall (1934-2016), the director of the first two films, passed away. Over the years, the stars have repeatedly expressed their interest in a sequel, especially Anne Hathaway. After all, the first film gave her her breakthrough.

In 2001, Anne Hathaway first portrayed young Mia, who turns out to be a princess of the (fictional) kingdom of Genovia. In 2004, "The Princess Diaries 2" followed. At the end of the sequel, Mia is crowned queen. In the third part, it will now be revealed how she fares as a ruler.
