Matt Damon (55) rarely speaks about his private life - but now the Hollywood star has offered insight into his long marriage to his wife Luciana Barroso (49). In a conversation with "People" on the occasion of the theatrical release of "Die Odyssee", the actor revealed what he believes is the secret to their 20-year marriage.
"I've always shied away from giving advice because I think everyone is different and every relationship is different", Damon explained. However, for his own partnership, there are some crucial foundations: "There's a lot of love and respect beneath the surface of the relationship and a lot of trust."
These values have sustained their marriage over the years. "It's based on a very stable foundation. We continue to grow and evolve as people, and that foundation is really everything", said the 55-year-old. Damon also found particularly loving words for his wife and their relationship: "It's the greatest thing in my life."
A Couple for More Than 20 Years
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso met in April 2003. Just two years later, in 2005, the two got married. Together they have four daughters: Alexia (26), Isabella (19), Gia (17), and Stella (15).
Unlike many Hollywood couples, Damon and his wife keep their family life largely out of the public eye. Nevertheless, the actor repeatedly demonstrates the importance his marriage and family hold for him.
A Team Professionally as Well
The couple's connection is by no means limited to their private life. Luciana Barroso also works with her husband and is a partner at the production company Artists Equity, which Matt Damon founded together with his longtime friend Ben Affleck (53).
Most recently, she was involved as a producer on Damon's 2024 film "The Instigators" and also worked on the upcoming crime thriller "The Rip". She also produced Affleck's upcoming film "Animals".
Damon explained that his wife has accompanied him professionally since the beginning of their relationship. "She's been a part of it since I've known her. She reads everything I work on. She watches film cuts. I've really relied on her notes for 23 years", said the actor.
His family also stands by Damon's side on his latest film project. While he was in front of the camera for "Die Odyssee", Barroso was simultaneously working on her own film project. The family recently appeared together at the premiere of "Die Odyssee" in London on July 6. Luciana Damon and the couple's four daughters supported the actor at his big appearance.
In Christopher Nolan's new adaptation of the ancient Greek epic by Homer, Damon takes on the role of Odysseus. The film tells the story of the legendary hero and his long journey after the Trojan War.
