With Mark Harmon (74) and Michael Weatherly (57), two audience favorites are returning to the "Navy CIS" universe. The actors are celebrating their comeback in different series. First, US network CBS announced that Harmon will appear throughout the entire third season of "Navy CIS: Origins". "The story he never told gets a new chapter...", stated an Instagram post on the "NCIS" account.

In addition to his role as executive producer and narrator, Harmon is once again taking on the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He portrayed the Special Agent for 18 seasons in the main series. He left in 2021.

For Harmon, this is his third appearance in the "NCIS" prequel. He already appeared in the pilot episode of "Navy CIS: Origins", and once more in the second season when the world of the prequel met that of the parent series. In the third season, his character will be firmly integrated into the storyline for the first time. Since "Origins" takes place many years before the main series and focuses on a young version of Gibbs, Harmon's appearance bridges the gap between past and present. The new season is scheduled to premiere on CBS in the fall.

Michael Weatherly returns to main series

Shortly after, CBS announced the next comeback: Michael Weatherly will once again portray Senior Field Agent Tony DiNozzo in the 24th season of "Navy CIS". The actor confirmed this in a clip shared by the "NCIS" Instagram channel. "This fall, I'm returning to 'NCIS' as Tony DiNozzo. How should I tell people?", he asks in it. The brief answer: "See you in the fall!"

Weatherly was part of the series' regular cast for over 13 seasons. After his departure, he had a cameo appearance in 2021. In 2025, he also appeared alongside former "NCIS" co-star Coté de Pablo (46) in the spinoff "NCIS: Tony & Ziva". After one season, Paramount+ canceled the series.
