Marius Borg Høiby (29), the eldest son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit (52), is currently in pre-trial detention. However, according to a media report, Høiby temporarily left the Oslo prison on Wednesday. The 29-year-old reportedly spent the night in a hospital, the Norwegian edition of the magazine "Se og Hør" reports.

The magazine published a photo allegedly showing Høiby accompanied by a police officer on his way to the clinic. However, the reason for his stay is not known. His attorney René Ibsen reportedly stated upon inquiry that he did not wish to comment on the matter.

Also on Wednesday, according to Norwegian reports, an appeals court ruled that Høiby should remain in pre-trial detention. An Oslo court had previously ordered his release with reference to his mother's health condition. The prosecution had appealed the decision.

Defense attorney Ellen Holager Andenæs stated that they were disappointed with the verdict and the appeals court's lack of understanding of the severity of the situation, according to the Norwegian newspaper "Dagbladet". Høiby had requested release due to the severity of his mother's illness. The Crown Princess suffers from pulmonary fibrosis and has recently been placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant.

Marius Borg Høiby has been in pre-trial detention since the day before his trial began in February. He is charged in criminal proceedings for numerous alleged offenses. The most serious accusations include intimate partner violence and offenses of an intimate nature. Marius Borg Høiby has admitted to some accusations while rejecting others. The verdict is expected to be announced next Monday, June 15.
