For days, Madonna (67) has kept her fans busy with a Dutch sentence. Now the guessing game is over: The singer will indeed perform on Saturday, August 1, at the World Pride Music Festival at Amsterdam's AFAS Live concert hall. The organizers have now confirmed the appearance with a poster.
In her Instagram story on Tuesday, Madonna shared a graphic in pink, featuring a sentence in Dutch: "I have something I want to talk about." The line comes from "Bring Your Love", her single with Sabrina Carpenter (27). When the WorldPride organizers picked up the post in their own Instagram story, the rumor mill was officially open.
"Club Confessions" with Madonna
It's now confirmed that Madonna is indeed bringing her "Club Confessions" for her July album "Confessions II" to Amsterdam. That's the name of her series of exclusive club shows, which have already taken place in London and Paris this year. In Amsterdam, she'll share the stage with British producer Stuart Price (48) and US DJ Honey Dijon (57), plus additional guests. Tickets for the music festival starting on Friday are available from 99 euros.
Amsterdam is hosting WorldPride until August 8, for the first time in the city's history. In addition to Madonna, artists including Bebe Rexha, Paris Hilton, Beth Ditto, Billy Porter, Olly Alexander, and the Vengaboys will perform at various locations throughout the city in the coming days.
"They took away my fear of being different"
Few world stars are as closely connected to the queer community as the Queen of Pop. "I wouldn't have had a career if the gay community hadn't been there for me", Madonna explained back in 2010 on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". Long before she became world-famous, she found support there.
For her commitment, Madonna received the GLAAD Advocate for Change Award in New York in 2019. "Standing up for all marginalized groups is a duty and an honor that I will never refuse", she said in her acceptance speech at the time. "They took away my fear of being different. And later, I gave them the feeling that they didn't have to be afraid of being different either."
This year, she's celebrating another Pride summer: In early June, she invited people via the dating app Grindr to an unannounced concert at New York's Times Square, and shortly before that, she performed at a gay bar in West Hollywood.
