Fashion designer Sarah Burton (born 1974) designed the wedding dress of Kate Middleton (41), now the Princess of Wales. After 26 years, the fashion designer is now leaving the British luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen, where she started as an intern in 1997 and was creative director since 2010. This was announced by the luxury label on Monday.

Last fashion show in Paris in September

"We would like to express our deep gratitude to Sarah for writing such an important chapter in the history of Alexander McQueen," quotes 'The Guardian' Alexander McQueen CEO Gianfilippo Testa, among others. "Sarah's contribution over the past 26 years will leave an indelible mark." Further praising Burton's "extraordinary vision and creativity."

It was also confirmed that her Spring/Summer 2024 show in Paris on September 30 will be her last.

"I am so proud of everything I have done and of my incredible team at Alexander McQueen," Burton herself says of her departure. "I look forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this precious time with me."

Sarah Burton took over after Alexander McQueen's death

A "new creative organization" for the house will be announced in due course, the statement added. Sarah Burton took over when the brand's founder, Lee Alexander McQueen (1969-2010), took his own life at the age of 40.

The heir to the British throne Prince William (41) married his Kate in her sensational wedding dress at London's Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.
