Anyone who has competed against their own network during prime time for years has eventually earned a break. At least that's how hosts Joko Winterscheidt (47) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (42) see it. Their employer ProSieben sees things a bit differently - and ties their vacation to a condition: rest and relaxation only come if the two entertainers travel together and bring the camera along.
The result is titled "Joko & Klaas machen Urlaub" and will soon be available on Joyn. As the streaming service has announced, six episodes are being produced in which the duo lets viewers participate in their road trip. Destination: Iceland.
This Time There's No Loser
The joint vacation of the two ProSieben hosts will be something very special - especially because it differs significantly from their previous excursions. Unlike "Duell um die Welt", which had them competing against each other for years, this time there are no challenges, no games, and in the end neither winners nor losers.
For two men whose television careers have largely been built on competition and mutual teasing, this is an unfamiliar situation. Instead of measuring themselves against each other, Joko and Klaas are simply supposed to spend their vacation together. No score, no task list - just two travelers and a barren island landscape.
The Real Challenge Is Called Harmony
The trip is unlikely to be completely friction-free, though. Because where the old formats staged conflict, vacation provides the ingredients naturally: the two entertainers sometimes bring completely different ideas about what a perfect vacation should look like. Reconciling these is the actual challenge.
Whether "Joko & Klaas machen Urlaub" ultimately becomes a harmonious road movie or more of an endurance test for a long friendship remains to be seen. When the new episodes will be available on Joyn is not yet known.
