Jenny Mollen (47) posted on Thursday with an unusually candid self-disclosure on Instagram. Accompanying a video in which she walks barefoot across a lawn with her arms outstretched, the actress and author wrote: "Just so we're clear, I am massively depressed." She continued: "This is what survival looks like."
The image and text are intentionally mismatched. Mollen wears a long floral dress and sunglasses, twirling and smiling at the camera. The scene is set to the Metric song "Help I'm Alive". Anyone watching just the clip would mistake it for a carefree summer post. Only the caption provides insight into the 47-year-old's true emotional state.
In the comments, many followers responded with encouragement. "You've got this! Nobody knows what depression looks like. Hang in there", one user wrote. Another responded simply: "I totally understand this post."
Split after 18 years of marriage
Mollen's statement comes about two months after her separation from Jason Biggs (48). A spokesperson for the couple confirmed in May to "People" that the "American Pie" star and Mollen had separated after 18 years. Both remain on good terms and are focused on their sons Sid (12) and Lazlo (8). A source close to the couple added that the pair are "very connected". The family celebrated Biggs' 48th birthday together shortly before the announcement. In June, the ex-couple was photographed according to "Page Six" having dinner with their children in New York.
A few days later, Mollen described being alone on the podcast "Not Skinny But Not Fat" as "surreal" and "really bizarre". She described her connection to Biggs as still romantic, just different: "We still love each other. It's just a different kind of romance. More like best friends." Daily life doesn't allow for distance anyway: "We live in two different places, but we're still connected. We have kids." They call each other 18 times a day about schedules, afternoons, and holidays.
Met on a film set
Biggs and Mollen met in 2007 while filming the comedy "My Best Friend's Girl", and married in 2008. Their two sons were born in 2014 and 2017. Most recently, the two appeared together in the comedy "Influenced", which was released in the U.S. in May. The couple largely kept their private life out of the public eye, particularly protecting their sons from the spotlight.
