Hogwarts poltergeist Peeves is making his debut in the upcoming "Harry Potter" series. It has now been announced via the official "Harry Potter" Instagram account who will portray the poltergeist. Peter Serafinowicz (53) will play Peeves.

Serafinowicz is one of those actors whose names movie and TV fans don't necessarily know, but whose face they've probably seen in a production before. The 53-year-old has been acting in film and television since the 1990s and has had roles in the comedies "Shaun of the Dead" and "Run, Fatboy, Run", in the superhero movie "Guardians of the Galaxy", as well as in the series "Parks and Recreation" and "Whitechapel". In addition, Serafinowicz is known as a voice actor.

Movie Peeves fell victim to the cutting room floor

The character Peeves previously didn't make it into the popular film series, which like the upcoming series is based on the novels by author J. K. Rowling (60). British comedian Rik Mayall (1958-2014) was originally supposed to appear as Peeves in the films. Scenes were actually filmed, but they fell victim to editing.

The streaming service HBO Max revealed the official title of the first season and the premiere timeframe in March. In German-speaking regions, the first season bears the title "Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen", just like the first installment of the popular film series. The series is scheduled to premiere around Christmas 2026. A second season, which is set to begin filming in the fall, has already been commissioned.

The old film trio Daniel Radcliffe (36), Emma Watson (36), and Rupert Grint (37), who became famous as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, will not be appearing in the series. The main roles will once again feature young actors. Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry, Arabella Stanton becomes Hermione, and Alastair Stout becomes Ron. Rowling is involved as an executive producer alongside Mark Mylod and Francesca Gardiner, among others.
